While not as renowned as the infantry or cavalry, nor as numerous as the Landwehr militia, Prussian artillery was a crucial part of the army, delivering vital fire support to the troops. From here, massed batteries would rain down devastation on the foe from afar, and if all went to plan, would not need to redeploy during the fighting! ‘Foot’ artillery comprised the majority of an army’s guns of sizes from 6-pdrs upwards, and would usually be emplaced in a tactically advantageous position before a battle.
