Desperta Ferro Ediciones

Desperta Ferro Ediciones is an independent publishing house founded in 2010 by three historians who, without external funding, grants, or institutional support, decided to make their passion their livelihood and commit to producing high-quality, printed cultural products, launching a bold business venture in the midst of the economic crisis. Today, Desperta Ferro Ediciones publishes four bimonthly magazines—Desperta Ferro Ancient and Medieval, Desperta Ferro Modern History, Desperta Ferro Contemporary, and Archaeology and History—and one quarterly magazine—Desperta Ferro Specials—with print runs ranging from 10,000 to 14,000 copies.

Desperta Ferro Ediciones has become a leading name in high-quality historical popularization.

After these years, Desperta Ferro Ediciones has become a leading name in high-quality historical popularization, thanks to its combination of special issues with texts written specifically for the publication by specialists, generally academics, and innovative and outstanding graphic design. This has made magazines a rare breed, objects of collection and reference in a world—that of periodicals—marked by immediacy and rapid obsolescence.

Desperta Ferro's dual focus, both popular and academic, reflected in its commercial success and its presence on university library shelves, has continued since 2015 with its brand-new line of books.

Its work has been recognized in 2015 with the Hislibris Honorary Award, in 2018 with the Hislibris Awards for Best Editorial Work and Best Historical Essay for *La tierra llora. La amarga historia de las Guerras India por la Conquista del Oeste* (The Earth Weeps: The Bitter History of the Indian Wars for the Conquest of the West) by Peter Cozzens, and in 2023 with the Hislibris Award for Best Historical Essay for *Ladrones de libros* (Book Thieves) by Anders Rydell.
