The Iron Duke

Intensely feared by his enemies, the Grand Duke of Alba, a Spanish nobleman, general, and governor, was known in the Netherlands as the Iron Duke.

In 1567, he was appointed governor and arrived in the Netherlands with the powerful Spanish Tercios, inaugurating the Spanish Road from Milan to Brussels. A formidable figure of his time, he has often been considered one of history's greatest generals, but also a symbol of tyranny due to his repressive actions. As strict as he was, he instituted the Council of Troubles, also known as the Council of Blood. His counterpart, William the Silent, or William the Taciturn, Prince of Orange-Nassau, managed to escape to Germany to become the leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish Monarchy, which sparked the Eighty Years' War and resulted in the independence of the United Provinces. Founder of the Orange-Nassau branch and ancestor of the Dutch monarchy, he is known as the Father of the Nation.

The Iron Duke, Volume I: Alba vs. Orange, includes a complete set of highly detailed and historically accurate figures to build a full Tercio or enemy infantry regiments for the period 1568-1609, from the start of the Eighty Years' War to the Twelve Years' Truce.
